Dear BCR Friends:

Saturday, September 15, is Coastal Cleanup Day, and that includes a Ballona Creek Cleanup at three sites. It starts at 9:00 a.m. and extends through a thank-you lunch, ending at about 1:00 p.m. Mark your calendars and tell your friends, family, and coworkers! This annual Culver City Public Works event is cosponsored by Heal the Bay, Eco Station, and Ballona Creek Renaissance.

We can use your help! To support the whole effort and the volunteers picking up trash and recyclables, the City of Culver City has asked Ballona Creek Renaissance to provide registration and coordination volunteers at the three cleanup sites (Duquesne, Overland, and Sepulveda) and volunteers at the picnic site at Eco Station (Pearson at Jefferson, rear of building). Can you participate in this very helpful (and hopefully enjoyable) way? Pick your spot and let me know. Early indications are that we may have more people cleaning up this year, making these logistics even more important.

For Overland and Sepulveda, we need five volunteers at each place. Three (including a site captain) will handle the registration table and two rovers will help out with questions and supervision along the creek. Instructions will be available beforehand, so don't worry about the details yet. Echo Horizon School teachers and parents plan to cover the Duquesne site.

At Eco Station, the primary roles will be to help set up the food stations, receive the donated food, and possibly help RSVP volunteers to serve it. BCR will have an exhibit and painted and fired tiles available for donations, so we could use your help there, too. Again, details will follow.

Your early email response really will be appreciated and will help you get the assignment of your choice. In fact, if, like Echo Horizon, you want to handle a spot as a school, organization, or business, that would be great! While information about the total Coastal Cleanup Day is available on Heal the Bay's web site (www.healthebay.org), you can best stay in touch for the Ballona Creek Cleanup through email with me. That will help Public Works' coordinator John Rivera focus on other logistics. (Email is best, as I'm on jury duty September 4-7 or so, and phone messages may stack up.)

I'll look forward to hearing from you and to possibly seeing you on the 15th. In the meantime, check the BCR web site below for lots of creek-related information!

Thanks a lot!
